Small Footprint, Large Display
The Advantages Are Numerous

LAB in PDF format

LeCroy’s WaveSurfer oscilloscope offers a small footprint and the largest
display in its price class. The figure on the back side of this page is
the real size of the display. The 10.4 inch (26.4 cm) diagonal TFT-LCD
display offers a high contrast ratio and excellent viewing angle. You
might ask the question; "Why is a large display so important?" There
are several answers to that question.

First, using a large high quality display offers the user greater flexibility
in locating the scope on the bench because the screen is easily read
from greater distances and at wider viewing angles. Even though the
screen is large, the trace annotation and readouts never overlap the waveform traces. This, along with the large size, makes it easy to get data from the screen.

The WaveSurfer is also intended as a simple to use bench scope. In this
application measurement tools like cursors are used extensively. The
large screen allows faster and more accurate placement of cursors. This
is shown in figure 1.

The large display and small footprint also make it easier to use the oscilloscope to do high volume repetitive work where multiple points must be probed and evaluated quickly. The small footprint it is easy to place the
oscilloscope near or behind the device under test. The large display
makes it easy for the operator to glance at the signal and quickly assess
whether the circuit is operating as designed.
